I built a catapult traction trebuchet this weekend.
My kids then used to play a badminton/baseball/castle siege hybrid with a stuffed hamster.

Onagers are nice, but only good for moderately lengthy seiges against secondary walls. Anything more serious and you’re going to need a trebuchet.

Strictly speaking, that’s a trebuchet.

You’re correct, it’s technically a traction trebuchet. I knew onager wasn’t actually correct because it wasn’t a torsion design, but I used it for my joke anyway.

I never knew that Onager was a name applied to a weapon. I read your reply and was like, “Why wouldn’t donkeys be ok in that situation?”

Other people were more righter then me am, in calling it out as sort of a traction trebuchet (not to be confused with the “normal” kind, a counterweight trebuchet). That being said, you could power a traction trebuchet with a donkey, because donkeys are always okay.

It can hurl a softball most of the way across my lawn so we can call it whatever you guys want.

Wasn’t the original idea to get the lawn dart to land in a hoop? It always evolved into dodge the lawn dart though. Still think it’s a good idea.

That was my lawn dart experience.

I’m pretty sure that’s a catapult, I was under the impression to be a Trebuchet it would require a counterweight and a sling.

I think it’s closer to a torsion trebuchet. The later trebuchet - what we now think of as classic trebuchet- used a counterweight.

Hmm...interesting. I think I may need to brush up on my medieval siege weapons then. I guess the key difference is I assumed to be a Trebuchet it requires a sling, vs a Catapult using a basket.
